How can you breath for more and better energy?
We breath energy
In Chinese language words are depicted as ideograms. One ideogram can have different meanings depending its context. The Chinese ideogram for breath, energy, vitality is the same symbol you see on the image: ‘Q'i’. Also in the yoga texts we find that the word ‘prana’ in Sanskrit is used for vitality, energy and breath as well.
Just try it out for yourself. Consciously feel the breath flowing in and out your lungs. And now try out the idea that this is not just air but also energy. Just take a few deep breaths and explore the idea that the breath is related to energy.
The breath controls your energy
Pranayama exercises are an important part of the yoga practise. There are different ways to breath. Some breathing techniques help to calm you down, some techniques will energise you, others will bring you a sense of balance. The starting point is always you and knowing what you need at this moment.
So just feel this moment. Do you need to calm down? Relax? Or would you benefit from a warming, energising breath?
The breath is like air. When you create a fire, you need air. The amount of air controls the strength of the fire. Likewise the breath can help you control your internal fire.
Spring energising
In the beginning of spring nature still carries the cold from winter. The sun starts to shine a bit longer every day and the temperature rises gradually. Our bodies are part of nature and attuned to this rhythm. We can mimic what happens in nature in our yoga practise to find a greater sense of natural flow and health in our body.
I have made a practise for early spring time, where you can work with a gentle Ujaii breath to energise and warm you up and to create some good Qi in your body. This Qi can be used for healing and/or creating the life of your dreams.
So let us practise. Go to the practise for this week.
