HOW does your perfect morning starts?

FROM FEELING SLUGGISH TO FEELING VIBRANT

In this article I will share an energising morning routine, ideal when you have a hard time waking up lately, feel a bit lethargic or heavy and very beneficial for early spring mornings. The routine is a Kapha balancing routine, to wake up your energy from winter and sleep time.

You can take 5 minute bits and pieces from it and fit it into your morning. If you do everything, it will take you about 20 minutes.

Kapha is one of the dosha’s in Ayurveda. Read more about it here if you like, but you don’t need to know everything about it to enjoy this easy quick morning routine.

The benefits?

Next to feeling vibrant and good…

You will have some time to yourself before the day kicks in and will feel more connected to yourself for the rest of the day.

The 5 minute self massage is good for the elimination of toxins, boost your metabolism, cleanses the skin, helps circulation, will help loose weight and will make you feel lighter and vitalised.

The 5 minutes sunsalutations will wake up your energy, stretch your body, and focus your mind on the positive.

And did I say that it just feels good :-)

How to prepare ?

Gather the following things:

  • a lemon,

  • dry brush or silk massagehand glove,

  • a yogamat

Go to sleep early for some days so you can start this routine well rested.

If your skin is dry, you need to take care of that first and do a self massage to moisturises your skin for some days or as long as you need to restore your skin.

7 EASY STEPS

Read through the steps and envision yourself doing them.

  1. Go to sleep early and get up early. The kapha energy gets stronger from 6h in the morning. So ideally you would get up even before 6h. But you can built up gradually to that, like nature does.

  2. When you wake up in bed, start the day with a positive thought and a little smile.

  3. Drink a glass of water body temperature with the juice of half a lemon. This will cleanse any toxins that have accumulated in winter and or at night.

  4. Take 5 minutes for a vitalising self massage, called Garshana.

  • Make sure the bathroom is pleasantly warm.

  • Place a towel on the ground

  • Sit comfortably, just relax and smile.

  • Brush your skin with the dry brush or silk glove brush.

  • Important is to brush in the direction of your heart.

  • Start with the feet and work your way up to the hart. Do the same from the hands to the heart.

  • Use long loving energising strokes on the limbs. Circular strokes around the joints (ankles, knees, wrists, elbows). Circular in the direction of the clock on the belly and stomach.

  • Gentle on soft skin. Harder on though skin.

  • Massage the face and head in the same way without the glove.

  • Be intuitive, loving and kind.

5. Shower. Finish your bath room visit with a look at yourself in the mirror and say something nice to yourself. Make it a true self care moment ,-)

6. Roll out your yogamat and do 3 sunsalutes. Finish with a positieve statement for your day, for example I feel energised and ready to enjoy this day.

7. Eat something light and warming only when you are hungry.

You can do this whole routine easily in 15 to 30 minutes. You can also just do the Garshana one day and the next day some sun salutations. Or if you work from home you can spread the bits and pieces of the routine over your morning, so you keep on building some good energy. Play with it, make it your own.
