Spring through the eyes of the ancient Ayurvedic yoga texts
"As above, so below, as within, so without, as the universe, so the soul"
The end of winter and the beginning of spring is the season of soil and water in Ayurveda. The snow is melting, the temperatures are rising, the days are getting longer, the earth is softening, and sometimes even becomes muddy. This provides the ideal basis for seeds to germinate and roots to cut through the soil and grow into the depth of the earth. Once the roots have settled in, the plant can also grow in height. Nature revives. The birds are singing with the early rising of the sun. And we feel the bubbling spring rising up in our lumber winter bones.
It is one rhythm: the rhythm of nature around us and the rhythm of nature within us. Our body is perfectly adapted to the seasons. Living in harmony with this universal natural rhythm leads to better health, more energy and more happiness. It just feels right.
Balance in an ever changing world
In Ayurveda, the key to happiness and health is one and the same. There is no health, without happiness and happiness leads to better health. The key to both is balance. The path of the middle.
We have to keep moving, around our center.
Balance is not a fixed thing, it is an ever-changing dynamic movement because both we and our environment are in a constant motion. If you stop, you fall. It's like a spinning top spinning around its center, when it stops, it falls over. We have to keep moving, around our center.
We live in connection with ourselves, the things we do, think, eat, the people around us, our immediate environment, the rhythms of the nature, the sun, moon and planets. When something in ourselves or our environment changes, then the balance changes and an adjustment is needed to maintain balance.
The changes of spring season
The ancient people of India lived closer to this natural rhythm than we do today. They felt that everything is an interplay of the 5 elements: earth, water, fire, ether and air. Both nature and a human body consist of these elements. Each person is a unique blend of a certain percentage of each element.
At the end of winter and at the beginning of spring, the elements of earth and water are more present in the natural environment. Because we are connected to our environment, every person feels that effect. But some people feel that even more. For example, if your constitution is strongly determined by water and soil and you are an earth type (Kapha dosha), this time of the year can be challenging for you.
To keep the balance, you have to change something in your way of thinking, eating, moving, living.
Licht, fun and upward
This season is ideal time to plant and grow your (dream)seeds. But too much soil and water together can become heavy. Take you down. Feel lethargic. Depressed. The feeling that you are stuck and cannot move forward. Difficult to start up. That heavy feeling we are going to release and exchange for a dynamic uplifted feeling. Dynamic and fun exercises will bring back the balance.
So ask yourself:
What would make me feels light and fun? What gets me going and moving? What lifts me up? What makes me grow?
Imagine feeling light and fun. Breath that in and out.
Imagine being ready for for major growth, a grounded balanced growth. Breath that in and out.
What can you do today that would make you feel that way? Breath that in and out.
When can you do it? Just do it as soon as possible, feel the feeling and enjooooy it.
